I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs last Sunday and I must say...Great show!
Tony and I got there around 8:00 and waited in line for around 15 minutes. Once inside, I met up with a couple of people we worked with and we all headed into the crowd. As we were there right on time, we got up front quite quickly, though we weren't quite at the gate at the front. When the first band ended (Blood on the Wall), I had managed to squeeze my way up as far as I could, but there were a couple of obstacles obstructing my path to the VERY front.
One was a bigger girl, and another was a 6' tall skinny guy. This short girl beside me was getting into little fights with the two and they were both angry, so I knew there was no way to sweet talk my way in. When the Yeah Yeah Yeahs came on, I could barely see for I was right behind the guy. The crowd was pushing really hard from behind so I used it as an excuse to lay into the guy in front of me. A couple of times Tony picked me up to see over the guy and I just kind of laid on top of him. After two songs though, I decided I just couldn't handle it anymore. There was this minute space between the guy and girl and I just went for it. I put all of my weight into pushing into the guy with my right side. While the short girl cheered me on, the guy strained to push me back, but I managed to hook my right elbow over the gate and started to pull myself forward, and then hooked my other elbow on the gate. I was so close to getting my spot when suddenly the guy put his elbow in my face and made ready to push me back, but Tony got pissed at him for almost hitting me and started saying shit like, "You pussy-ass bitch!" Security came over and made sure things were alright, and I got my spot!
God, I was so sweaty by that time. But I didn't care. I had Karen "Fucking" O. standing in front of me singing!
Oh, I love when you can tell that musicians really love what they're doing; from time to time, Karen O. would just break out in a smile and giggle as she jumped and twirled onstage. For their encore they did an acoustic version of "Maps" and then followed that with "Date with the Night."
Tony and I both agreed that we think "Maps" is better electric; it's a rare song that's actually seems to be stronger and more powerful as electric. The acoustic just didn't give it enough power and emotion.
