I HATE Growing Up

I was kicked off of my dad's insurance because of the fact that I am now a resident of Minnesota. So I call American Family Insurance to see what kind of a deal I can get...and the lowest rate for me will be $310 a month.

Car Insurance + Rent = "Liz can't afford it."

So as I usually do, I call up Mom in lue of any better idea. Things aren't looking too swell. I can't get a student discount for American Family Insurance for I'm not 21 and my best bet right now is Progressive, which will probably be around $150. Even that I can't really afford, and I dont' want to keep asking my parents to help me out.

I like the idea of getting rid of my car; it'd be an easier option if I didn't live so close to home. Home only being a state away makes the prospect of going home so much easier. But if I were to live in say...Boston : ), I wouldn't need a car for it's not like I'd be driving home anytime soon.

But for now, I have NO insurance and I don't really know what to do.

Mommy!

Shop around a little. $310 a month is insane. Have you gotten a lot of tickets or something? Is that for just liability/uninsured motorist? I forget what car you're driving now, but you can probably go without collision insurance and save a lot of money.

Driving without insurance can get you in a lot of financial/legal trouble ifyou get in an accident. I wouldn't recommend it. Besides, it's illegal and you can get a big fine if you get pulled over.

You can always get student loans to cover some costs as well. Or, get rid of the car altogether as you said. Find out if any place there will rent to someone under 25 if you ever truly *need* to use a car. It would be cheaper to use the bus/your new kickass bike for daily stuff, and then taxis/rentals a few times a month than to pay $310/month for insurance.
