"Moving"

With my influence, Tony has decided that he wants to move overseas with me for the summer. We both really want to live in Italy as we have both been and just loved the place. We also thought about maybe going to Ireland, since they actually speak English there.
Tony has cousins in Italy...and so maybe we have a connection there for a place to stay. Anyone have advice or know of a site to check out where I can get information about moving to Europe for the summer?

Well, there are Hostels that you can stay in on the cheap for a summer in Italy. (or anywhere in Europe for that matter)http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=italy+student+hostel+information&fr=FP-tab-web-t&toggle=1&cop=&ei=UTF-8

First I would check with your school to see if they have a study abroad program. That way you could get college credit, financial aid, student loans, get in a program to learn the language and get immediately connected to a bunch of other study abroad people from all over the world (not just US) who are doing the same thing.

I know you can do it through U of M if you do transfer there at some point.

My advice would be that if you are going to stay in one place, definitely go with either a work abroad or study abroad program. Otherwise you'll have too much time on your hands.

If you just want to hang out, I wouldn't stay in a single place. There are plenty of cheaper places in Southern and Eastern Europe that would be great to see.

If you just want to do a lot of travel on the cheap, Asia is still far and away the best place. For $1450, you can get a 90 day PLANE pass from cathay pacific to go to 18 different cities in Asia. That's a lot of cash but in Thailand, Indonesia, Bali, Veitnam etc you can live on less than $10 each a day with a bit of scrimping, especially if you are travelling in a pair. There are tons of backpackers in all these places if you want to hang out with them, and it's very easy to do.

Oh, a better answer to your question would probably be found on lonelyplanet's message boards. http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/

You should stay with a kindly Italian couple with a bunch of nubile daughters. Oh I'm sorry, I'm projecting my dreams again.
